Grief & Loss

Although death is the ultimate loss in this life, the grief process is not limited to a physical death. Sometimes it's the death of a dream or loss of opportunity or even innocence that can plunge someone into despair.

There are stages of grief that include denial, anger, sadness, negotiation and acceptance (not necessarily in that order). The journey one goes through to heal from a loss is often paved with sorrow. Some stay angry to avoid dealing with the pain of facing the reality that something they held dear is no longer available. If anger is a constant companion, you may have unresolved grief to work through.

Grief is a normal part of life. Although it is difficult to work through, grief is necessary to normal functioning. The emotions associated with grief may temporarily produce distress, but it is necessary to process those feelings in order to heal emotionally.

Art can help to express emotions in ways words cannot. In dealing with grief and loss, the use of artistic expression can sometimes aid the grief process.
